Case Study
Baitong Hotel & Resort
Increasing Awareness For A New Hotel

Baitong Hotel & Resort had only recently opened and was an unknown competitor in the hospitality market. They had all the elements of a popular and top ranked hotel. Well-appointed guest rooms, unique architecture, beautiful public spaces, and they were 100% customer focused. But their current photos did not do any of the facilities justice. My mission was to deliver high-end photos that captured the true character and message. Photos that were attention-grabbing and created brand awareness.
Shooting over 12 months and in 6 phases, I delivered over 50 high-impact images. I composed and edited the photos with the goal of grabbing the viewer’s attention, while still accurately portraying the guest rooms and facilities.
Since the delivery of the photos, Baitong Hotel & Resort:
• has become one of the most popular hotels in Phnom Penh. Both with local residents and international travelers. Maintaining occupancy rates of around 90%, even during the current crisis.
• is one of the top photo shoot locations in Phnom Penh, increasing sales for their F&B outlets and facilities.
• has a TripAdvisor rating of #2 out of 432 hotels in Phnom Penh.
The Process
Before each shooting phase, I had a productive on-location meeting with the various teams. We visited all the shooting locations beforehand to be aware of the lighting conditions. Any concerns were brought up now, insuring a smooth shooting day. I took onboard any comments and suggestions and could visualize the message the client needed to get across to the viewer.
I took many scouting shots of compositional ideas during this visit. Later, turning these into online digital sketches, which I could share with the client and always have on hand.
I noticed various lighting, compositional, and staging issues, and we were able to address these early.
Scouting
The shooting days went extremely smoothly because of the preparation on both sides. I knew exactly what lay ahead of me regarding lighting, composition, the best gear, and staging. The client had prepared everything perfectly. Throughout every shoot, someone from marketing, housekeeping, and maintenance was on hand all day. Overall, I captured 1,173 frames. Shooting all categories of guestrooms, the public spaces, f&b outlets, amenities, lifestyle, and management group portraits.

What Goes Into Making One Photo
I retouched all the delivered photos in-house. The number of images and delivery time frame did not warrant sending the excess work off to a professional retoucher. I manually blended together the images using an advanced technique of luminosity masking. This ensured the most natural blending, keeping with the goal of natural looking photos. The colors and tones are kept consistent across all the photos, while making sure they would stand out and draw the viewer in.

All in all, I delivered 52 final photos to the client. The photos have been used on the client’s website, OTA listings, highly engaged social media posts, digital and print advertising, and marketing campaigns.
